Sleeping with dinosaurs

No, not like that, you weirdo! Sleeping beside dinosaurs.

Wait, wut? What's all this dinosaur malarkey? It's my birthday present! For some years now that Natural History Museum in London has been running events called Dinosnores where people get to spend a whole night in the museum. I've really wanted to go, but it's very pricy. Well, Mr Robot is taking me. Yesterday he gave me a number of gifts to unwrap – amber jewellery, a jar of bath bombs shaped like dinosaurs, a duvet cover with a dinosaur print – and then gave me a Dinosnores T-shirt and little 'gift token' he'd made telling me we're going to Dinosnores.

The museum runs two sorts of Dinosnores, one for people with children, and one for adults only. Needless to say, we're off to the latter. It includes a three-course meal, dino-themed games, comedy, live music, gin tasting, an all-night monster movie marathon, and even breakfast the following morning. I'm going to need a good brekkie if I spend all night watching monster movies, that's for sure. We have to take our own sleeping bags, but the museum provides bedrolls. I wish Dippy was still in the main hall. Whales are important, I know, but Dippy is an icon. Sleeping below a whale skeleton won't be the same. I shall have to try to get closer to one of the smaller dinos in the side-rooms.

Aside from getting GREAT presents from the husbeast, I had a brilliant day yesterday. Work gives us our birthday off, so I'd booked a salon appointment in the morning, spending a voucher on a manicure and getting my eyebrows tinted (my brows are only dark for the first inch or so, so this is the first time in my life I've had proper ones, and it is so weird having horizontal stripes on my face instead of little rottweiler-style dots). Because I was already in town, we went out for a fancy lunch instead of an evening meal. The weather was so lovely, it felt like being on holiday.

    1. He's very good at buying presents. People sometimes laugh at my tastes; with the dinos and trains and robots I have an inner Just William.

  3. What lovely presents you got, Mim! You must be so thrilled about Dinosnores. But if there's an all-night monster movie marathon, you won't be able to sleep anyway! I love that your work gives you your birthday off. I'm going to propose my new bosses to do the same. My old boss didn't even know when my birthday was! xxx

    1. We actually have unlimited holiday, so we could take our birthdays off anyhow, but by insisting on it, it does make things more special. My mag team always has a Marks & Spencer Colin the Caterpillar cake for people's birthdays, and the birthday guy/gal has to eat Colin's pure chocolate face! (I felt slightly sick afterwards...)

    1. I will take pics of the food - I'm having crab salad, then tarka dal, roast cauli and soy yoghurt (I think Pete's having chicken breast and veg for that meal), then rhubarb and orange cake with raspberry coulis. We get a full fryup for breakfast.
