Grumplestiltskin

I am in a jolly bad mood today. I found a glove on the floor, one of the Morse Code Mitts I designed myself, put it on and... full of holes. Pippin has been breaking into the coat cupboard under the stairs, so I sort of hoped that it was kitten damage, but realistically, it's moths. Cue me hauling my favourite vintage jacket out, and my bag of scarves, then all sorts of other things to check they were okay. I have a day off on Friday (it's my birthday) so that will be spent trudging up to the hardware shop to buy MORE moth repellent/killer and giving the coat cupboard a real cleaning.

Then Expedia decided to rearrange one of our holiday flights - we booked one from Granada to Madrid so we could fly back from Madrid to the UK, and they moved the Granada flight so it lands AFTER our flight from Madrid to England leaves. And Expedia are still taking bookings on the flight we paid for! GITS. Now we have to work out some other way of getting from Granada to Madrid.

And I'm on deadline at work. BAH.

On the other hand, the glove was the only thing I found mothballs in. I suppose it could be the fact that most things in the cupboard have anti-moth balls in the pockets, or in their packaging, that has kept all the rest free of moths and I should be grateful for that. And the mitts pattern does need a recheck, so I can do that when I make a replacement one. And the cupboard does need sorting out. But I'm still annoyed!

We had an emergency trip to the vet with Ziggy on Sunday. He kept throwing up and we were worried he'd been poisoned, but he was running a massive temperature. Several vastly expensive injections later, he's back to being a little sod, eating his sister's food as well as his own, and wrestling with her under the bed at 5am. Ah, Ziggy. On this one, at least, I am very happy indeed.

  1. Gah! Moths! That would be a nightmare for me. I've got moth repellent in the wardrobes, but I reckon I need to replace them with new, so thanks for reminding me. A friend had a total nightmare with moths - they chomped their way through his carpet.

Glad to read that your Ziggy is okay and back to his usual self.

    1. I use three different sorts of killer/repellent (Zensect balls, pheromone traps, and some little vapour things that stick to the wall). I replace those things regularly, keep an eye out for moths and yet I still get them occasionally. Drives me nuts.

    1. We're going out for proper tapas! Well, as proper as you can get in England - the real food, but not a proper bar-to-bar tapas crawl.

  3. Oh no, those poor mittens (I call mine beer mittens as they're great for keeping my hands warm at festivals but don't interfere with the cider drinking).
Bloody Expedia! they seem to get lots of complaints on the Guardian's money pages - at least you've got plenty of time to sort the arrangements out though.
Glad Ziggy is feeling better and back to his normal naughty antics. I swear by Sainsbury's pet insurance if you aren't already covered. they've saved us a fortune with our beasts over the years.
Happy Birthday for Friday if you don't post before then! xxxxx

    1. The kittens are insured with Petplan - they come with a month's coverage when you get them from Cats Protection, and we decided to continue it. Costly little furballs.

I can reknit the mitten, so that's not a problem. It'll give me a chance to spot any errors in the pattern...

  4. Craptastic, moths. I've had problems in the past, but so far (fingers crossed) this house seems better. It sounds like you got it quickly under control, and if you can isolate the place where they've laid eggs, all the better. Some people swear by bay/laurel leaves, and it might not be a bad idea to use in addition to everything else. You can hang them in a sachet (out of kitten reach). You need a lot of them, so it might make sense to buy at an Indian grocer rather than a pricey spice shop. Anyway, that's all the advice I have, because I use the heavy duty moth balls. They smell awful, they're probably giving me cancer, but they work.

Good to hear Ziggy is recovering.

I hope you have a wonderful Birthday.

    1. I wage a constant war against them - I don't know where they come from, and I've got LOTS of antimoth remedies around, from pheromone traps to mothballs to in-cupboard vapourisers. Side-effect of living in a Victorian house in a woollen mill town, I guess. At least we don't have carpets for them to get into.

  5. Blimey, those moths are voracious. Ziggy is so perfectly beautiful. Glad he's on the mend. I hate the whole planning and booking of flights bit of the holiday. Hope you managed to get it all sorted out satisfactorily. It's bad they're still taking bookings. Xxx

    1. I've honestly never seen damage that bad before. I'm glad it was just a mitten and my favourite jacket is okay.

Pippin is cute, but Ziggy is really photogenic. He's actually slightly odd-looking when you see him in the flesh, all eyes and cheekbones - I guess that's what photographs well for cats as well as humans. He knows he's gorgeous.

    1. I was VERY annoyed about the flights - and they didn't want to give a refund, though we argued them round. We're waiting now for Renfe (Spanish rail service) to release details of their summer service to see if we can do it by train instead. we'll be training between cities everywhere else anyway.

  8. Oh no, poor Ziggy. That sweet dear! I'm so sorry to hear that he was deeply ill and truly hope he makes a full recovery. Likewise, I'm very sorry that you've been getting hit with one stressful encounter after another.

Thinking of you and sending tons of wishes for a tranquil March your way,

    ♥ Jessica

  9. What a rubbish day you had, but at least it's your birthday today. Yay!! Hope you do something a bit more special than just visiting the hardware shop and sorting out the cupboard. x

  10. Sounds like you had quite a week! I am glad to here little Ziggy is all better now, its alway a sure sign when they start misbehaving again!
Oh I am stunned that your flights got changed on you that is really awful, I hope you can sort it all soon! I will say after my rail trip last year, the trains in Europe are far more reliable and cleaner than ours, it was actually quite enjoyable, (but then I do love a train trip) plus you get to see more of the country that way!
I hope you are having a fabulous birthday and being spoilt rotten!
