Art deco glasses

Capricious beings, the charity shop gods. I popped into a few yesterday hoping for clothes, and did they deliver clothes? Of course not. Nor bags, shoes or even brooches.

What they did deliver is a quartet of 1930s glasses. I found a photo of an identical set of three plus a matching jug on Pinterest. It would be nice to have the jug too, but four glasses are generally more usable than three and I already have lots of jugs.

I'm rather pleased with this set. I've always loved jazz age homewares, and glasses aren't common finds.

All hail the charity shop gods!

    1. It would be *amazing* if the jug turned up too - I'll keep checking the chazzas as well. Though I'm in for another busy month, off to London this weekend and then hopefully back to Norfolk to see Mum the weekend after.

  3. They are lovely, I can just see a "Gloria Wandrous" sipping whisky out of these. That is great to get a set. You often see odd glasses kicking about but it is rare to see a full set. I will keep a look out for a jug too. Xx

    1. I wondered if they were 80s at first, just because art deco styles had a bit of a revival them and there were four of them - but I didn't think handpainted glasses were common in the 80s. Finding the photo of a similar set online confirmed they were 30s.

I will gladly buy the matching jug off you if you find one.

  4. Those glasses are fabulous, and are a great find, even if you didn't find anything else. I did send the charity shop gods your way, which must have helped ;-) xxx

    1. I was well chuffed. When I got to the counter the woman said, "Oh, they look art deco, don't they?" and I replied, "You don't often see a set of four highballs, I'll get a lot of use out of them," hoping she wouldn't suddenly decide they were underpriced or something.

  6. Ooooh, pretty! I far prefer glass to ceramics, though my head can be turned by a Shelley tea set or a Midwinter coffee set.
