That Friday feeling

It’s Friday! And you know what that means, right? It’s time for another Seriously Fuck Casual Friday outfit, a dressing-up middle finger to lockdown and coronavirus and everything that's generally bobbins right now. Thanks to the locations I take my photos, I can’t fit all my body in shot, so today’s offering is a bit of a cheat: the green dress is far too tight (it’s stretchy) but as no-one’s going to see my lower half, I put it on anyhow. You wouldn't catch me wearing this ensemble outside Casa Robot, however.

The jacket is a 1960s Peggy Page one I got from Kinky Melon last summer, and the necklace is a midcentury Lisner. Scroll down for a detail shot of the necklace. I had originally thought of wearing a fantastic domed 'starburst' brooch in green diamante but spotted the brown necklace while looking for the brooch and decided to go with that instead. Can you believe it, I actually thought I had enough green on. Wonders will never cease. Perfume is Star Trek Pon Farr; I really wanted the optimistic escapism of Star Trek in my day today.

I really love this jacket, and should try to make a dress to do with it. A simple shift shape ought to do, in a fabric with just a hint of sheen. Once upon a time there would have been a dress or skirt to go with it, probably made in the same fabric. The chances of me ever finding one to match are slim, let alone one to fit. I can’t do the jacket up, but hoorah for narrow shoulders, as they mean I can wear it anyway.
So what else have I been up to this week? Apart from eating proper meals, not much. I’ve been knitting a cover for my Switch (a little Nintendo handheld) while watching telly, and reading a pulpy steampunk novel. I did order some more seeds. And I’ve ordered Mr Robot’s big birthday present. His birthday’s not till May, but I thought I should probably order things now, just to be sure of getting them. I’m glad I’ve no birthdays to worry about in April. This may be the only year in my life when I’m glad both my parents have birthdays at the end of November! Perhaps by the time that date rolls around I'll be able to go out shopping for gifts.
I hope you’ve been having a fun week. Have you got any important people’s birthdays coming up? How are you going to handle them?

  1. Fab outfit, Mim. The necklace is very pretty.

I love the pattern on the jacket.

OH's birthday is in May. I would normally take us away for the weekend but who knows what we can do now? I'll make him a lemon drizzle cake I know that much!

    1. Yes, we'd usually go out to dinner but that's not an option now. Cake is always good - everyone loves a bit of lemon drizzle!

  2. Five of my best friends have birthdays in April/May, plus my mom, who's turning 75 and has had to scuttle any plans for a big to-do. We usually do a Spring Tea for the April/May birthdays, but that's likely going to have to be postponed. AND, as if all that weren't enough - it's L's 50th birthday in June! And it's very probable that we will not be able to have a house full of people to celebrate. It's rather sad.

I love your wonderful green look - and really? can you ever have too much green? What were you thinking, Mim! I adore your jacket - those mid-century ones are just wonderful. I have a matchy jacket/dress combo that I pulled out of my vintage archives as I haven't worn it in years and may as well right now, right?

I have a few pieces of Lisner, including a necklace and bracelet - your necklace reminds me very much of them.

Glad to see you, Mim! Have a great weekend!

    1. Oh no, you're missing out on so much! Hopefully by June you'll be able to get out and about again and celebrate L's 50th in style.

  3. That's such a beautiful necklace. Not sure about ever having enough green though.

No gifts to buy, and not desire to shop online either. I bought a couple of silly items for Danny for an Easter basket, but didn't buy any treats. As we still have Christmas candy I was thinking of just wrapping that up.

Trying to come up with things to do at the weekend that are different from all the other days at home.

    1. Yes, I do at least have the day job to define my week. I'm actually being more rigid about scheduling things, just to add some structure to time. Otherwise it all gets a bit blurred. Maybe have a Saturday movie night or something?

  4. You look fabulous! I'd forgotten about that Peggy Page jacket, it's beautiful on you, you really suit green.
Good idea to start thinking about Mr Robot's birthday. Two of our friends celebrated their's last Sunday, I have presents but we've decided to leave excahnging them until after lockdown when we can all get together and celebrate like we used to!

    1. Yes, I've got a friend's present here, and her birthday was early in March. When we're all finally allowed out again there are going to be so many parties!

  5. It's my sister's birthday tomorrow, but more often than not, we do not see each other on the day anyway, and sometimes present-giving doesn't occur until many weeks later. Yes, we're that kind of family. She'll get my present one way or another after this nightmare is over. Your Peggy Page jacket is stunning! I've got several jackets I cannot do up, so never mind. If you make a simple shift dress to wear with it, you'd only be wearing it open anyway. Love the necklace too! I'm still trying to find a routine now that I'm partially unemployed. I've got plans but for the time being I'm just doing nothing much, as I'm bone tired to be honest! There'll be some exciting blog posts coming up from me, I'm sure :-) xxx

  6. My partner turns 65 on Thursday but as we don't make a big deal of birthdays anyway might just have to have a drink or two to celebrate. Working from home will help to as I can probably whip up a cake in my lunchbreak LOL.
Stay safe and keep on wearing the wonderful clothes.

    1. I made scones during one of my lunchbreaks, though cake takes longer to bake. I hope he has a great day, with or without cake!

  7. Gah, birthdays! Something I should start doing things for. The big one is for my Dad, he turns 90 in May. It depends on the situation at the time I suppose - if the non-essential travel ban is lifted then we'll have more options. Time to make a plan anyway.
