A work day [outfit post]

It's great seeing people's everyday clothes. A number of my favourite bloggers show theirs, and I always enjoy getting an idea of what they look like day-in, day-out. Let's face it, as nice as it is to see lovely outfits for special occasions, most of us don't dress to the nines every day of the week, and a bit of inspiration for outfits on a day-to-day level is always welcome.

NB I am not expecting this to inspire anybody, I just thought you might like to see what I look like on a work day. I have several clothing combos that are in regular rotation, and this pussybow blouse (East, years ago) and tweedy mini (Monsoon, also years ago - the lining's knackered beyond repair but I still wear it) are among my winter staples. Always with opaque black tights, and usually my black brogues or, as today, hiking boots, though those are out of shot. The cardi was new to me last summer; I got it for £2 in a chazza and it seems to go with so many things I wonder how I did without it. And for Goody, Smell du Jour is Rochas Alchimie.

It struck me on the way in that I have a few things with pussybows and always wear the bow peeking out over a cardi or jacket fastening. Is that twee? I don't know. But along with the relentless matchy-matchy, it is very me.

The brooch is my one sale purchase for the year. I'm not a huge fan of Erstwilder. They do some nice designs, but I've never felt I had to have one till I saw this maneki neko one. I like maneki nekos; there's one in that starry cube next to my desk, and I put him on my desk when I'm feeling in need of a bit of optimism. Top Vintage had them in stock, and when I spotted him in the sale, I pounced. He actually determined what I got out of the wardrobe today; I knew I wanted to wear him and show him to you so that started me thinking about red, black and cream.

Anyone else like lucky cats, or is is just me?

  1. I love seeing people's everyday clothes too. What I'm wearing on my blog is what I'm usually wearing, even if most outfit shorts are being done in the weekend. That tweedy mini looks very cute, and I confess I do have quite a few items with tatty, beyond repair linings. I too wear my pussy bows draped over my cardies, and occasionally my jackets. If it's twee, then so be it (but I don't think so). Your office ceiling looks exactly like mine, the same lighting fixtures too ;-) xxx

    1. Yes, you're one of the people - like Vix, Goody, and Veronica - who I think probably do look just as they always look on their blogs. To the point where I sometimes see things and think, "That's so Ann!"

  2. Nice outfit! I can see why you love the skirt, it's cute and versatile. I'm trying to break the habit of wearing just a handful of winter bottoms, and wore a wine coloured woolen skirt today. I made it some 10 years ago, but at some point I decided it was a tad short. Sill me, when I put it on today I could see it's perfect ;)

    1. Oooh, wine is a great colour - it can go with so many things. I do fall into the trap of wearing pretty much the same outfits all winter long.

  4. Good frag!
Nah, it isn't twee-how else are you supposed to wear them? I enjoy seeing everyday fashions. You look great in a mini, if I don't sound pervy saying that.

    1. When I bought my skirts for our trip to Spain my husband suggested I was too old for skirts above the knee. Needless to say, that suggestion went down like a lead balloon. I'm not sure I've forgiven him yet...

  5. Aargh! I am nuts for Lucky Cats. I have a teapot somewhere and various bits of tat. Nothing as fabulous as your brooch though. I love your OOTD post. You look really smart and put together and you really suit a mini. I also wear my pussybow blouses with the ties out. I love them too. Your desk is far too tidy. :) Xx

    1. Actually, I'm expecting a telling-off any day now - we're supposed to have a clear-desk policy. But I need my in trays and box of mags, and don't have room for them in my locker. I guess I'll argue that one when the time comes...

  8. That mini is fab, shows off your cracking legs! I really could do with a tweed mini like yours, it would be great for work. I actually am feeling rather inspired by your post, I like the pussybow peeking out of the cardi too. Great to see a photo of you in your work setting!

    1. I keep eyeing up Boden's ones in their sale... no way I'd pay full price for one, they're ££££, but in the sale they look much more appealing.

  9. The brooch is so CUTE!!! I do find that every now and then Erstwilder do things I love but I don't like all their stuff. I so rarely wear separates any more my pussybows are all languishing in the cupboard.

    1. I'm not sure separates are my friend, cutting me in half at the waist I don't have. :-/ I generally break the line up with a cardigan.

  10. Love your outfit & the lucky kitty brooch!
I love my Indian kurtis & churidars as they are so bright & heavily decorated I don't need to accessorize- solid color bottoms + embellished top + metallic sandals & bag =instant outfit!

    1. Metallic sandals! You genius - that's exactly what I need for India, for when I'm not wearing my hiking boots.

I've got a couple of salwar kameez sets - straight suits - on order for my India trip. I wanted to make sure I had some properly covering options, and shops don't seem to do many 'lightweight but modest' western-style options.

  11. I think this is a lovely outfit, Mim. I love, love that rich claret/burgundy/cranberry/magenta??? cardigan; it goes so beautifully with your fabulous Titian hair and it picks up the colours in the mini - I thought they were shorts at first...

Pussy bow blouses look very elegant to me. I had a blue checked one in the early 1980s that I loved and wore to death.

    The cat brooch is charming!

    1. I don't think I'd dare to wear shorts! Dunno why, if they were the same length as the skirt I wouldn't be showing any more, but it just *feels* racier.
